Our story

Yard Sauna began with a simple idea - to create a small, community-based space where people could slow down and feel connected again. Inspired by the long tradition of sauna as a shared ritual, it’s about warmth, relaxation, and the quiet comfort of being close to nature.

Built by hand in Richmond with help from family and friends, Yard Sauna is rooted in place - shaped by its quiet charm, rich heritage, and the changing seasons. It’s a calm, down-to-earth place to pause, unwind, and reconnect - with yourself, with others, and with the rhythm of the natural world.

The hands behind Yard Sauna

The image shows the interior of a small camper trailer under construction, with unfinished wooden framing, some insulation, and construction tools inside, against a background of a brick building, trees, and a cloudy sky.

Yard Sauna began as a personal project - a way to bring together a few of my favourite things: time in nature, craft, and creating spaces that bring people together. I’m Harry, and I founded Yard Sauna, supported by a small network of family and friends who’ve helped turn a simple idea into something real.

The build itself has been a family effort. My dad’s a lifelong DIYer with an eye for detail and passion for woodwork; my mum’s horse-mad and deeply connected to the stable yard the sauna now calls home. Together, with a few generous neighbours and friends, we’ve spent countless weekends turning an old retired horse box into a calm, wood-fired space for others to enjoy.

Yard Sauna is the result of that shared effort - built by hand, rooted in place, and shaped by community.
